Many believe that at the current rate at which land is being taken over to build industries, malls and housing, the addiction for drugs amongst youths will become even more compound, resulting in an abysmal upsurge in the addiction for drugs.

“To battle this, the government needs to first examine things from a vantage point and then undertake projects aimed to provide youths with enough space to put their minds to something creative,” said Manik Mia, a resident of Gulshan. He also added, “if the youths keep getting addicted to such poisonous substances, I can only imagine a dark future for our nation as a whole.”

Conventional wisdom has it that sports can help people reduce stress and improve their mental health – two of the vital issues that youths today battle with. Many high-schoolers take drugs as an option due to increased academic pressure. Use of illicit substances can distort how one’s mind perceives the world around and relaxes the brain, which has the ability to sufficiently comfort students along with giving them a sensation of happiness. However, sports can do the same and with greater benefits. Unlike taking drugs, participating in sporting events can increase focus and positively affect one’s mindset. Moreover, drugs carry grave repercussions such as death which sports do not.
